[Singapore] Strengthened bonds with Singapore

“My mentor Dr Ronald P Ng and I discussed the differences between Hong Kong and Singapore, which deepened my understanding of two of the most-developed cities in Asia. It is crucial for me to broaden my international horizons through the exchange programme and Dr Ng shared with me his in-depth experience in living away from our home, Hong Kong. He knew that I am studying Environmental Science so he introduced to me his friend who is working in a related field. Not only did I learn more about Singapore from him, but also I learnt more about my future career field. The mentorship programme was very beneficial to me during my exchange, as it gave me a chance to know someone from Hong Kong who has been living in the country for a long time. As a mentee, I was also invited to participate in alumni gatherings of the HKUAA Singapore Chapter.”

“Charisse is studying environmental science; therefore, I introduced to her a friend of mine who is a young entrepreneur running a green technology company. They got along well and we had dinner together, and the conversation got around to doing business with sustainable models in mind. I believed Charisse’s Singaporean fellow students would fill her in on current Singapore so I took her to the Tanglin Club, which is a very prestigious club in Singapore with long colonial history to give her an impression of the old heritage of the city. We also went to the Japanese Club with her sister. The idea being to show her the cosmopolitan side of Singapore life.” Ronald P Ng, HKU alumnus, mentor and a hematologist in Singapore.
