Work Shadowing

“I had a fruitful year and learnt a lot from my mentor, Jeannie. I am an fine art student and Jeannie graduated with the same major. She shared a lot of her experiences with me, from insider’s view to the art industry, and to the joy of art appreciation. It is really useful for me to learn from her. The advantage of having a mentor is that you can get support when pursuing your career goal. I dream to pursue a career in the art industry, and more precisely in art management. I asked my mentor for advice. Jeannie provided me an opportunity to work shadow with the artist Shane Aspegren inside her studio. She coached me along the way, and I helped the artist to handle his guests’ contacts and applications for Funds. Through the process, I gained real working experience in the field. The mentor and mentee relationship is not only like teacher and student. It’s more than that; mentorship is about friendship. The mentorship experience exceeded my expectations and I will definitely recommend it to future Castlers of University Hall.

Jeannie is the director of an art house and she invited me (centre) to visit her studio in May, together with hall tutor Vincent Chan (right). “
