Surviving tips

A big thank you to mentor Mr Daniel Yeung (BSc(Eng) 1969) who, since 2012, has supported many mentees on exchange in Montreal, Canada. The tips he shared with mentees on accommodation, transportation, how to survive the extreme cold winter have helped to ease the anxieties of students who are away from home.

Johnathan Li: “I learnt a lot from my mentor about Montreal, the places to visit and things to look out here. He also shared his past working experience. As we both studied Engineering, I found those experiences particularly relevant to my future profession. I am a rather shy person and tend to keep things within myself, but my mentor encouraged me to talk more and seek help from friends, which turned out to be very helpful.”

“He was really helpful in providing me with valuable information regarding Montreal, which helped me with adapting to the new environment.” Rahman Shakurur.
