“My mentor William and his wife Vivien are very nice and friendly people and helped me a lot to settle into my room and also introduced me to the history and environment of the city and the campus. I attended the Remembrance Day ceremony at the University of Alberta, which was a very inspiring experience.” Andrea Yeung.
“We were very happy to have had Andrea as our mentee. Despite some trepidation at first, she adapted well to the new environment quickly and made friends with many native and foreign co-students. She also showed great interest in learning about the sights and history of the places we took her to visit.
Our experience with the Mentorship Programme has been all positive. We feel rejuvenated by communicating with modern-day HKU students whom we see as a much younger, albeit different, version of ourselves. The HKU and indeed the Hong Kong where we grew up does not exist anymore. These “mentees” teach us about the new Hong Kong as much as we teach them about their new environs in Canada. In that way, the Mentorship Programme has been quite satisfying for us.”
Dr William Lai and his wife Vivien (both BA 1966), mentors in Alberta, invited their mentee Andrea to the Remembrance Day event to remember those who sacrificed their lives during WWI and WWII.
