ChallengeYourself

“Emily is so kind and she keeps encouraging me to be bold and confident. As a direct entry student from an Associate Degree, I originally thought I would have no chance to get into the Big Four in future due to a sense of being inferior at HKU. But after talking to her, I regained my direction for my future career, and not just because of her encouragement, but because of Emily’s sharing of her experiences in the assurance field.

I think I am a disciplined and determined person, like her, hence I believe working in the assurance field, which emphasises so much on compliance with rules for both myself and others, is probably a good choice. Besides, I love taking on challenges though I am not very confident. So when Emily shared with me that working in an assurance division one will sometimes encounter, if not confront, top managers and bankers who are generally difficult to deal with. I was so excited about that. I cannot help thinking about the sense of accomplishment one must feel after convincing an intelligent and powerful person to change their opinion on something.

To be honest, Emily really helped me a lot regarding my career path. Her advice is really constructive and I now have a better understanding of an auditor’s job. At the same time, she suggested the proper attitude and lifestyle that I should pursue, e.g. not focusing too much on the academic side, and suggested that I try more new things and expend my social networks at this age when I still have time to expand my exposure.” Mentor Emily Ho (left) and mentee Louise (right).
