Circle of friends

“Being new to a place, I really appreciated how my mentor, Professor Alfred Lam, would send me emails asking how everything was going and if I needed any help from him. He introduced me to many people as soon as I arrived in Australia so that I might make connections and get to know Australia better.

At our first meeting I was introduced to other alumni and students from HKU and the University of Queensland. I also met many new friends and we visited each other weekly to travel around Brisbane and the Gold Coast. At our second meeting, we had wonderful lunch together and my mentor gave me lots of advice about my career and academic studies. He showed me around the Gold Coast and I even had the chance to visit his workplace and have a look at his daily work. My mentor was always happy to answer my questions and offer his help. I have made connections with many people and received a lot of career advice related to both the Science and Medicine fields.” Miranda Chung from Taiwan (second right) with mentor Professor Lam (third left), Mrs Dimity Young (third right) and her son (first left), and two students from Hong Kong.
