“Mr Andrew Seaton is a very learned and inspiring mentor. He is always able to discuss current issues in depth so we learned a lot from him. His experience in politics and diplomacy is also impressive so we all enjoyed talking to him. Law and business administration seem to be very professional studies but they cover various disciplines including politics, sociology and medical sciences. Having a mentor like Mr Seaton allows me to enrich my knowledge and look at an issue from a new perspective. Mr Seaton not only led me to develop insights about diplomacy and politics, but also shared his own working experience. These are conducive to my pursuance of future legal and business studies.
The meetings with my mentor also allowed me to learn the essentials of etiquette regarding meeting people in the real business world. I realised that seemly trivial acts, such as shaking hands and exchanging name cards, can make a large impact on someone’s first impression. Food ordering and the selection of words used in communication are also techniques that can only be mastered through trial and error.
During the Mentorship Inauguration and other networking events organised by the HKU Mentorship Programme, I was given opportunities to mingle with fellow mentees from different faculties. We had nice chats together and this has broadened my social circle. The Mentorship Programme really helps me acquire unexpected friendships.” Eunice Wong.
