About the event:
As part of Ditch Disposable HKU we will be screening the award-winning documentary A Plastic Ocean. Following the film, there will be a panel discussion with the film’s producer Ms. Jo Ruxton, Mr. Patrick YEUNG Chung Wing from WWF-Hong Kong, and Dr. Christelle Not from the Department of Earth Sciences HKU. The speakers will discuss the issues surrounding plastic waste in Hong Kong and globally and what we can do about it.
About the film:
“the most important film of our time.” – Sir David Attenborough
A Plastic Ocean follows as an international team of adventurers, researchers, and ocean ambassadors go on a mission around the globe to uncover the shocking truth about what is truly lurking beneath the surface of our seemingly pristine ocean. The results will astound viewers–just as it did the adventurers–who captured never-before-seen images of marine life, plastic pollution, and its ultimate consequences for human health. The film brings to light the consequences of our global disposable lifestyle. We thought we could use plastic once and throw it away with negligible impact to humans and animals. That turns out to be untrue.
