“I benefitted so much from the help of my mentor Cheung Cheung. Before our arrival, she shared with us her experiences of living in Germany, how to prepare for an exchange, and other information such as German courses, daily tips, and security. She also referred us to the German community Facebook group. She helped me quickly adapt to my new environment.
During mid semester, the other mentees and I were able to visit Cheung Cheung and her family. We talked about different social issues in Germany, for example, the education system, housing problem, and the country’s energy policy. The photo was taken by Cheung Cheung’s son who was too shy to be in the photo.” Karen Fong, BSocSc Year 4 (second left in the first photo)
“From my mentor, we gained tips about living in Germany, such as where to get Chinese food at a lower price, and the nearest outlets. It was so helpful. We also learnt more about the lifestyle of local Germans. Our mentor was so caring in that she prepared some Chinese herbs for us so we could cook Chinese soup in our halls. And when I become ill, Cheung Cheung gave me advice and told me where to buy medicine, as finding a doctor in Germany is not as easy as Hong Kong.” Sharon Fong, BA Year 3 (second right in the first photo)
