“Uncle Nic and I, joined with other mentees, once again organised a charity walk in the UK to raise funds for a non-profit organisation. This year we supported the HKU Project Mingde Student Association. It was our third charity walk, which coincidentally marked the 10th anniversary of our mentorship relationship.
Throughout the past decade, like other mentees, I have developed a close relationship with Uncle Nic and Auntie Lorene, his late wife, and learnt so much from them that I could have never imagined. They contributed a lot to Project Mingde (明德工程) in Guangxi. I appreciate their relentless efforts and loving hearts in helping the underprivileged to receive an education through the building of schools and bridges there. At the same time, they shared with me their thoughts and experiences in many areas including career development, work attitude, relationships with friends and family, charity work, our position and responsibilities in society, and what lifelong achievements mean to them. Even though I was not able to spend more time with Auntie Lorene, I was so impressed by her great personality and loving heart towards everyone around her, and her warmth has remained with us as she wished.
I have always been very thankful for the great time we have spent together and the unconditional support, encouragement and guidance I have received from Uncle Nic. It has always been a pleasure spend time with him and our ever growing mentee group! The idea and cultural exchanges among us have always been stimulating. I am still very excited and looking forward to the next decade of our mentorship.” Leo Ng, mentee of Dr Yeung since 2008.
