“We and our mentor met on the 30th of January, 2019. That was a great start to the semester. Our mentor Junia is a personal coach, so we were privileged to get to ask any kind of question and she would have enough experience in and views on everything. In particular, lately I had not just been thinking about my future career, but really feeling insecure in my abilities and in what I was learning. But Junia, just by herself, is a good example of all the opportunities that are available on the career ladder of any person. After hearing about her first and later job experiences, now I feel how my insecurities are followed not by anxiety, but by the motivation to learn and act more, and to be open and positive.
She is experienced, and has clear opinions on most things I am interested in. At the same time she is open to anything new that we can offer her. Most importantly she is positive about everything, and about our future. So I feel light and motivated after our talks.
I and Lilian (BSc Year 3), the other mentee, and Junia at afternoon tea. First we asked questions and then she shared some personal stories. We talked about interesting topics such as confidence and self-esteem.”
